The tradition of nose piercing comes from India. There it was usually women who had it. One would use it to symbolize that she was married. Also Indian women believed that a piercing on the outside of the left nostril would make childbirth easier. Nowadays small nose studs and screws are also preferred by women, as many find these little glittery things elegant and sexy.
